“We had a beautiful Granite fire pit cut and installed by True Blue Surfaces. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My family loves the fire pit! They had a wide variety of granite and other stones to choose from. Will be using them again soon to replace my countertops. Highly recommended.”

How to Choose the Right Granite Slab
Looking for the perfect granite slab in Austin, Texas? Granite slabs are all very unique — no two slabs are exactly alike. So when you’re searching for the right slab that goes with the colors of your kitchen or bath, it’s important to remember that there may be unique specs, colors, or patterns within each slab. No reason to worry or stress, though — one of our granite experts can help you find a slab that works within your budget and compliments the design of your space.
-
Choose a granite slab that fits your budget
While finding the right kind of color and quality of granite is important, the size of the slab you need matters, too. For example — a bathroom countertop is usually a small area. The kitchen countertop, however, needs to be the focal point of the kitchen. So a larger slab may be necessary.
-
Look for a granite color that compliments your space
Each granite slab is unique. In other words, the same name of granite might produce two very unique patterns or color variations. So choosing a slab that contains the right combination of colors, patterns, and variations is important. Be mindful of what colors will complement the rest of the space.
-
Be mindful of how you will be using your granite surface
Will you be using your granite countertops for cooking or preparing meals? You might want to find a slab that hides food stains well. But spaces that require more of an accent piece might call for a granite slab with less variation or texture.

Schedule An AppointmentWhat Are the Different Colors of Granite?
Color is determined by the specific minerals of the stone. The colors range from a very soft, mottled gray, to a redder brown. Fine-grained stones are more likely to be red, whereas coarse-grained stones may be a brown-gray color. Stone is usually worked by using a blowtorch to remove the exterior layers of the stone. Red tumbled marble is typically one of the most expensive stone species. There are many colors, shades, and textures.
Ceramic versus Granite
Granite is the material of choice for the majority of countertops, but there are some outstanding options with ceramic. Ceramic offers the ability to color match your countertop to your existing wall color. However, granite is typically much stronger and has a higher gloss compared to ceramic.
How to Care for Your Granite Countertops
Granite countertops are widely known for their long-lasting durability and resistance to stains. But taking proper care of your granite is key to maintaining its look and durability.
Here are a few tips to properly care for your granite countertops and keep them looking great:
- Brush it gently and evenly using a soft bristle brush to remove any rough spots
- Wipe it with a wet cloth to remove excess oils on the surface
- Clean the granite surface with warm water and/or dish detergent
- Polishing compounds can be effective in removing any scratches
- If there are large scratches that cannot be removed, contact us for professional advice

Frequently Asked Questions about Granite Countertops
Level 1 granite is an entry level granite, otherwise known as “commercial grade” or “builders grade” granite. Often prefabricated and imported from China, level 1 granite is cut thinner at around ⅜” and not as strong or durable as higher grades of granite. Level 1 granite will also come with fewer color options.
Granite counter overlays are thin, pre-cast slabs of granite material that cover your existing countertops. While these are a budget-friendly way to change the look of your kitchen or bathroom, granite counter overlays are much thinner (13mm), less durable, and are only as strong as the surface they’re laid over.
Once your granite countertops have been professionally installed and sealed by True Blue Surfaces, we recommend you reapply sealer every 12 months using any of the following products:
- Granite Gold Sealer
- Rock Doctor Granite & Stone Sealer
- Stone Care International Granite & Stone Sealer
